4A Integrated Math 3

We will be starting our first unit in Summit- Sequence and Functions, with our first three lessons: 'Next?', 'A possible geometric sequence' and 'Do what's next'. All three lessons have a checkpoint (homework), but hopefully we have enough time in class to complete those before heading home.
Next week

We will continue in our unit "Sequences and functions" finishing the lesson titled "Do what's next" before moving to "Define this sequence" and taking a day to get caught up.
By the end of this week, you should have three checkpoints/homework submitted in Summit. If you do not, you can still submit the ones from last week. You can also work to pass the first PFA this week if you haven't already.

The first grades of the year will be posted in PowerSchool on Friday, September 22nd.
The last week of September

This week we will be finishing the lessons in our first unit "Sequences and functions". The two remaining lessons are titled "Ow, my jaw" and "Two bacteria populations". That means we should have all seven checkpoint/cool downs submitted by Friday.

Speaking of Friday's, today, grades are going into PowerSchool. These grades are based off of how many checkpoints/cool downs a student has submitted so far.  Our first Unit Assessment will be the first week of October and the first PFA is due at the end of this week.  Grades will be more concrete after the first week of October.
The first week of October

We have finished all of the lessons from our first unit. We will be taking the Unit Assessment (80% of a student's overall grade) at the start of the week and the Power Focus Area (PFA- 14% of a student's overall grade) to end the week.  We are starting our second unit- Polynomials, on October 9th.  Grades will be updated in PowerSchool on 10/6/23.
A new week= a new unit

We are starting our next unit- Polynomials. This unit will take us to Thanksgiving break. There is a lot of material to cover.  Our first two lessons next week are titled "A box's domain" and "A different account". 3B will also cover "Identifying features" on Friday.

Parents, please check PowerSchool tonight.  Overall grades are being updated after school from Summit into PowerSchool.  Summit is updated daily while PowerSchool is updated every two weeks. Students that are behind can come in before school and during lunch for help to improve their grade.
October 16-20

We will be continuing our unit "Polynomials" with the lessons "Identifying features", "Mind the gaps", and "Polynomial graphing error". We will also finish looking at each student's ISAT practice test results.

Grades will be updated on Friday in PowerSchool, but Summit has your students up to the minute grade listed under the "Progress" tab every day.  If a student still needs to pass the first PFA- "Math II", they can work on it before school and during lunch in my room or during their Mentoring class.  They also can work on it when each day's lesson is completed in class. Test retakes can be done before school and during lunch every day in my classroom.
The quarter ends on Thursday, October 26th.

With the quarter coming to an end, grades will be updated in PowerSchool on back-to-back Fridays. We will finish the quarter with the lessons "Identifying polynomial features" and "A possible polynomial equation". If you/your student wants to raise their grade before the quarter ends, I am available before school and during lunch to help with PFAs as well as retaking the first unit assessment.
..
The end of the first quarter

We have reached the end of the first quarter and quarter grades have been updated in PowerSchool. Any student that would like to raise their grade by retaking a previous Unit Assessment may do so by coming in before school or during lunch where I can help them.  PFAs can be worked on in class or during Mentoring.

Next week we will be continuing in the unit titled "Polynomials".  With the short teaching week, we will only be covering two lessons in one day- "Identifying end behavior" and "Describe the end behavior". By the end of the week, students should have 9 green or yellow checkpoints/cool downs in this unit.
The first full week of November

We will continue with our unit with the lesson titled "One last sketch" and we will finish the week with the lesson titled "A product of linear factors"." A" day will also have a handout on Friday.
The last week before Thanksgiving

Next week we will be taking the second round of OTUS testing as well as finishing our present unit, Polynomials, with the written Unit Assessment. This is worth 80% of a student's overall grade.

The next PFA is due on Friday, so we will take some time to work on that as well.
After Thanksgiving

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It is nice to relax and spend time with family. When we return, we will be take a day to work on the PFA for our present unit- Polynomials. I know the third PFA was due before the Thanksgiving break and many took advantage of the days we spent working on it, but not everyone did, so we will take one more day. Some who have already passed the third PFA, may use the start of the week to retake the Polynomials Unit Assessment that was due before break.  Many scored well, but others may want to improve their grade.

We will finish the week by starting lessons from our next unit- Exponential functions and equations.
The first full week in December

Next week we will be continuing in our new unit- Exponential functions and equations. The lessons we will be covering are 'Flea treatment' and 'Finding a & b'. Grades in PowerSchool will also be updated from Summit on Friday.
One week left until break

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool. Make up opportunities are everywhere- before school, during lunch, and at the end of each period.  Please take advantage of these opportunities before the semester ends in three school weeks. After the semester ends, it's too late, semester grades will have been submitted.

This week we will continue with our unit "Exponential functions and equations". This week's two lessons are "Video viewers" and "Explaining logarithms to a friend".
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

There will be no homework during break.  Please use the time to be with your family and friends, getting some rest, and enjoying your time away from school.

When we return, there will only be 9 days left in the semester.  Upper classmen know how important semester grades are.  Please remember their importance.

The start of 2024 will find us working on the lessons "Video viewers" and "Explaining logarithms to a friend". Something new we can learn on the calculator.

The last week of January

We will be continuing in our unit titled "Exponential functions and equations" with the two lessons titled "Solve some equations" and "A moldy surface". There is a school assembly to end the week.

The first week of February

We have one more lesson in our Exponential Functions and Equations unit.  We will work on the lesson titled "Which graph represents which function" at the start of the week and finish the week working on the Unit Assessment.
Valentine's Day week

Grades will be updated in PowerSchool this weekend.

We will be finishing up the unit "Exponential Functions and Equations" with the PFA to start the week.  We will use the end of the week to get caught up up on ANYTHING we are behind on from this school year.

We will start the next unit, "Transformation of Functions", after the long weekend.
After our long weekend

Hopefully everyone is rested after the long weekend. During our short week, we will begin working on our new unit "Transformations of Functions". We will break down the PFA problem by problem and our score on the PFA will be our Final Product grade as well.  This 'unit' will only take us a little over two weeks.

I am still available before school and during lunch to help with PFAs or Unit Assessments that need to be made up. Grades will updated in PowerSchool this Friday, 2/23/24.
The last week of February

We will continue to work on passing the "Transformations" PFA during class this week. The score that is earned on the PFA will translate into the Unit Assessment score as well.

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool and if you would like to improve your grade, I am available before school and during lunch in my classroom.
The first full week of March

We will finish our time with the Transformation PFA and start on the Circles PFA with a vocabulary list along with looking at questions.
Two more weeks until Spring Beak

With only two weeks left in the 3rd quarter, we will continue to work on passing the Circles PFA that also counts as our Unit Assessment grade. We will be looking at PFA questions and solving them. We have already had students pass the PFA after only two days of lessons.  There will be two more lessons this week.

Grades will be updated in PowerSchool on 3/15. Grades are ALWAYS up to the minute in Summit.
The week before Spring Break

We have finished the "Transformations" and "Circles" units with the PFAs scores counting as our Unit Assessment scores. We will now begin work on preparing our juniors for the ISAT test.  There will be nine days of lessons reviewing the types of questions facing our student on the math portion of the test. ISAT preparation and testing will take the rest of March as well as most of April.

Grades are being updated in PowerSchool today.
The week after Spring Break

We will be continuing with our practice of ISAT style questions in preparation for the ISAT test later this month.

If you still need to pass a previous unit's assessment, I am available before school and during lunch to help. PFAs can be worked on in class or in Mentoring class.
Second week of April

We will be continuing with our practice problems to get ready for the math ISAT which will start on April 18th.

If you still need to pass a PFA or need to retake a Unit Assessment, that can be done in class after we are done reviewing ISAT questions.

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool.
ISAT test this week

With the ISAT math test starting on Thursday, 4/18/24, we will finish our review on Monday and Tuesday. We will use the rest of the week to answer any questions you might have either from our review or problems you had on the test.

Grades will be updated in PowerSchool on Friday, 4/19/24.
Last full week in April

With ISAT math testing going on, we are taking the week off from MORE math and using the time to get caught up on any missing past checkpoints, PFAs, or unit assessments.  Those that are already caught up have time to work on other classes.

We will be starting our last unit of the year on 4/29 and it will cover the material that the state of Idaho says all 11th graders should know.

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool.  Six weeks left in total.
The end of April/beginning of May

We will be starting our final unit of the year, "11th grade skills", on Monday. It will be eight lessons covering all of the material that the Idaho State Department of Education has determined are the most important math skills an 11th grade student needs to have to be successful. Your math notes will be VERY important for this unit and summative assessment.

The last PFA is due on 4/29/24. Grades will be updated in PowerSchool by the end of the week.
The first full week of May

We will continue with our final unit titled "11th grade skills" with the lessons titled "Day 3 work", "Day 4 work", and "Day 5 work". These assignments will continue on paper, each assignment being due at the end of the period.

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool. If your student needs assistance with improving their math grade, I am available before school or during lunch.  Columbia High School also offers both Overtime during the first 20 minutes of lunch and After School Intervention on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
