1B Integrated Math 1

We will be starting our first unit in Summit- One-Variable Statistics, with our first three lessons: A vocabulary lesson, 'Reasoning with representation', and 'Why graphical representation'. The last two lessons do have a checkpoint (homework). Hopefully we can get that completed in class.
Next week

We will continue in our unit "One-variable statistics" finishing the lesson titled "Why graphical representation" before moving to "Distribution types" and taking a day to get caught up.
By the end of this week, you should have three checkpoints/homework submitted in Summit. If you do not, you can still submit the ones from last week. You can also work to pass the first PFA this week if you haven't already.

The first grades of the year will be posted in PowerSchool on Friday, September 22nd.
The last week of September

This week we will be finishing the lessons in our first unit "One-variable statistics". The two remaining lessons are titled "Calculating IQR" and "Expecting outliers". That means we should have all five checkpoint/cool downs submitted by Friday.

Speaking of Friday's, today, grades are going into PowerSchool. These grades are based off of how many checkpoints/cool downs a student has submitted so far.  Our first Unit Assessment will be the first week of October and the first PFA is also due that week.  Grades will be more concrete after the first week of October.
The first week of October

We have finished all of the lessons from our first unit. We will be taking the Unit Assessment (80% of a student's overall grade) at the start of the week and the Power Focus Area (PFA- 14% of a student's overall grade) to end the week.  We are starting our second unit- Linear equations, inequalities and systems, on October 9th.  Grades will be updated in PowerSchool on 10/6/23.
A new week= a new unit

We are starting our next unit- Linear equations, inequalities, and systems. This unit will take us past the Thanksgiving break. There is a lot of material to cover including graphing and solving for variables.  Our first two lessons next week will be done on paper and will review how to graph an equation and an inequality. We will start our first Summit lesson on Friday.

Parents, please check PowerSchool tonight.  Overall grades are being updated after school from Summit into PowerSchool.  Summit is updated daily while PowerSchool is updated every two weeks. Students that are behind can come in before school and during lunch for help to improve their grade.
October 16-20

We will be continuing our unit "Linear equations, inequalities, and systems" with the lessons "Box of T-shirts", "A spoon full of sugar", and "If this, then that".

Grades will be updated on Friday in PowerSchool, but Summit has your students up to the minute grade listed under the "Progress" tab every day.  If a student still needs to pass the first PFA- "Foundations", they can work on it before school and during lunch in my room or during their Mentoring class.  They also can work on it when each day's lesson is completed in class. Test retakes can be done before school and during lunch every day in my classroom.
The quarter ends on Thursday, October 26th.

With the quarter coming to an end, grades will be updated in PowerSchool on back-to-back Fridays. We will finish the quarter with the lessons "If this then that" and "Features of a graph". If you/your student wants to raise their grade before the quarter ends, I am available before school and during lunch to help with PFAs as well as retaking the first unit assessment.
The end of the first quarter

We have reached the end of the first quarter and quarter grades have been updated in PowerSchool. Any student that would like to raise their grade by retaking a previous Unit Assessment may do so by coming in before school or during lunch where I can help them.  PFAs can be worked on in class or during Mentoring.

Next week we will be continuing in the unit titled "Linear equations, inequalities, and systems".  With the short teaching week, we will only be covering the lesson "Fabric sale". By the end of the week, students should have 5 green or yellow checkpoints/cool downs in this unit.
The first full week of November

We will continue with our unit with a two question test to start the week along with the lesson titled "A system to solve" and we will finish the week with the lesson titled "Putting new equations to work". A day will also have a handout on Friday.
The last week before Thanksgiving

Next week we will be taking the second round of OTUS testing as well as working on more linear systems.  There is a third way to solve linear systems= elimination.  We have solved them through graphing as well as substitution.  Now we will add the third method.

The next PFA is due on Friday, so we will take some time to work on that as well.
After Thanksgiving

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving break. It is nice to relax and spend time with family. When we return, we will be working on the last lesson (Pick a graph) in our present unit (Linear equations, inequalities, and systems) before concentrating on solving Linear Systems using all three methods: graphing, substitution, and elimination. These will be the last lessons before our final two products in the unit.
The first full week of December

We have reached the end of our present unit- Equation, inequalities and systems. We will have two tests next week- a six question test on systems to start the week and the Unit Assessment to finish the week.  Both of these are open note and students can use calculators. Grades will also be updated in PowerSchool at the end of the week.
One week left until break

Grades have been updated in PowerSchool. There has been a lot of changes due to the assessments we took last week. Make up opportunities are everywhere- before school, during lunch, at the end of each period, and Mentoring.  Please take advantage of these opportunities before the semester ends in three school weeks. After the semester ends, it's too late, semester grades will have been submitted.

This week we will be starting our new unit "Functions". The first two lessons are "Domain and range" which will be on paper and "A growing puppy" which is in Summit.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

There will be no homework during break.  Please use the time to be with your family and friends, getting some rest, and enjoying your time away from school.

When we return, there will only be 9 days left in the semester.  We have been discussing how important semester grades are.  Please understand how serious I am about their importance.

We will review domain and range as well as go over function notation again on the first day of class. We will end the first week of 2024 with the lesson "Visitors to a museum".

Last week of January

This week we will be finishing the lessons on our Functions unit with the lesson titled "A toy rocket and drone again". We will also be having a quiz on function notation and and handout to end the week.
